Fast, Secure, and Compliant Document Legalization for International Use

The 92BP Apostille & Authentication

What is an Apostille?

An apostille is a certificate issued by the Secretary of State that authenticates the seal and signature of a notary public or other public official. It allows your documents to be legally recognized in countries that are part of the Hague Apostille Convention.

What is Authentication?

Authentication is used for documents going to countries that do not participate in the Hague Apostille Convention. This involves a multi-step process to certify your document for use abroad:

  1. Authentication by the Texas Secretary of State

  2. (If required) Certification by the U.S. Department of State

  3. Final legalization by the appropriate embassy or consulate

This ensures full compliance with foreign government requirements for legal acceptance.

What is the Hague Apostille Convention?

The Hague Apostille Convention of 1961 is an international treaty that simplifies the process of certifying public documents for use in other countries.

Instead of multiple layers of government verification, participating countries agree to accept a single apostille certificate, which replaces the need for embassy or consular legalization.

✅ If your document is going to a Hague Convention country, only an apostille is needed.
⛔ If your destination country is not a member, you’ll need the full authentication + embassy legalization process.

The U.S. is a member of the Hague Convention. A full list of member countries is available upon request.
